Northwestern Wildcard

About the piece

Northwestern’s Global Marketing and Communications department oversees all brand standards for the university. In 2015 the University underwent a brand redesign. The Wildcard was the first major redesign under the new brand. The Wildcard is the ID card used by all students, faculty, staff and contractors associated with the university on all three campuses, Chicago, Evanston, and Qatar. I was asked by Global Marketing and Communications to lead the redesign of the Wildcard. Here is the result.

Original Concept

In the development stage I hoped to create a transparent card that would be a nod to the university tag line "And is in our DNA" giving users a new design and a glimpse of the new technology behind the design. Due to security we were not able to use the clear card concept but we were able to maintain the new design. The card served as the first physical introduction to the new brand standards at Northwestern.

Additional ID Types

In correlation with to the standard ID several additional ID types were created using Northwestern's secondary color palette for individuals that don't identify as students.
